How Do I Install the OGO™ ORIGIN Compost Toilet

A real-world walkthrough for vans, tiny homes, boats, and cabins—because every space is different.

Installing the OGO™ ORIGIN isn’t complicated—but your space is unique, and your install should fit how you live. Whether it’s a van drawer, a marine enclosure, a tiny home corner, or an off-grid shed, this guide walks you through it step by step, with all the details you actually need.

Let’s get your toilet set up right the first time—mounting, venting, wiring, and powering, with flexibility for now and upgrades for later.

Pro Tip: Know your space and have it planned out before removing any existing plumbing or fixtures. We are here to help throughout every step.

Step 1: Unbox and Find Your Spot

Start by placing your OGO™ ORIGIN where you want it to live. Don’t rush—this is your bathroom, and it should work for your flow (literally and spatially). Common installs include:

  • Drawer slides in a van or bus

  • Marine heads or under-bench enclosures

  • Cabinet cutouts in tiny homes

  • Open corners of off-grid cabins

Mark the area, open the lid, sit on it, simulate real use. You'll want room to lift the lid, run your vent, and access the power jack.

Step 2: Choose Your Mounting Style

A. Floor Mount (standard)

  • Comes with a base plate and 4x #14 3/4" screws

  • Use a Phillips screwdriver or drill to secure the plate to your subfloor

  • Great for mobile installs (vans, RVs, boats)

B. Wall Mount (coming Fall/Winter 2025)

  • Our upcoming wall-mount option will allow vertical mounting in tight or rotating spaces

  • Ideal for slide-out drawers, vans with minimal floor clearance, or marine cabinetry

Tip: If you're planning to use a Drain Kit, install that before securing the unit—cut your drain hole, then mount.

Step 3: Wire It Up

The OGO™ ORIGIN runs on 12V DC power. You can wire it directly or plug it into an adapter.

A. Direct wiring

  • Use the provided power cable (bare wire on one end, barrel jack on the other)

  • Red = positive / Black = negative

  • Strip wire as needed, then connect to your 12V battery or fuse block (use a 10A fuse)

B. Plug into wall outlet

The jack is located at the rear right corner—low and out of the way.

Step 4: Set Up Your Vent Hose

The unit includes a 3-foot vent hose:

  • Flexible PVC with steel wire reinforcement

  • Hose OD: 1.6825” / End ID: 1.6”

  • Fits snugly over 1-1/4” PVC

Push one end onto the T-bar at the back of the toilet, and the other to your vent port. If you need a longer run, order extra per foot. Cut shorter if needed using a utility knife and wire cutters.

Planning a ventless build?
Not recommended for full-time use, but possible in dry climates or ventilated builds. You can also install a charcoal filter into the vent housing for light-duty odor control.

Step 5: Customize Vent & Fan Placement

By default:

  • Fan is on the right

  • Filter intake is on the left

But every build is different. If your layout needs it, you can swap the vent and fan insert to the opposite sides in minutes. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pop them out and reinstall them. We have a guide here.

Step 6: Future-Proof Upgrades

We’re always building smarter. Coming Fall/Winter 2025:

Wall Mount Kit – Mount vertically, tuck into tighter installs, or attach in modular drawer units
Removable Handle Accessory – Pop-up handle for easier lifting, emptying, or cleaning without full disassembly

Final Check

Before you call it done:

  • Is the toilet securely mounted or safely stowed?

  • Is the vent hose connected with a clear path out?

  • Is the power cable snug in the jack and wired correctly?

  • Press the button—does the agitator cycle for 45 seconds?

  • Feel near the vent outlet—do you feel a slight airflow?

If yes—you’re installed and ready to go.

Final Word

The OGO™ ORIGIN is built to fit your life, not force you to fit someone else’s blueprint. Whether you’re rolling down the highway, off-grid for the season, or setting up for weekend getaways, installation should be fast, clean, and easy to tweak.

Mount it. Plug it. Vent it. Hit the road.

And if you need help at any point, we’ve got your back—because no one should struggle to install a toilet.
