This is the wiring setup we used from August 26, 2022 to October 1, 2023. It features a 4-wire timer (upgraded from the previous 3-wire version) and no PTC fuse. It was a big step up in reliability.
How to check if my button is corroded
Pop off the top cover and inspect the back side of the button switch. Look for:
-
White or greenish build-up on the contacts
-
Rust-colored dust or discoloration
-
Loose or unreliable clicking when pressed
If corrosion is present, the button may not complete the circuit—causing your unit to act dead.
How to check if my power jack is corroded
Disconnect power and inspect the inside of the DC jack (where the power cable plugs in). You’re looking for:
-
Green/white powder or rust inside the jack
-
A burned or blackened center pin
-
A loose or “wiggly” fit
This corrosion can cause power dropouts or prevent the unit from powering on.
How to check if my wire clips are corroded
Remove the base cone insert and examine the WAGO® clips or original wire splices inside:
-
Open each clip and check for discoloration on the wire ends
-
Tug gently—corroded wires may snap or fall out
-
Look for rust or moisture around any metal-to-metal contact points
Corroded clips can interrupt signals to the fan, motor, or sensor.

How to upgrade my wire clips to the new WAGO® Clips
If your clips are corroded or unreliable, it’s time to switch to WAGO® connectors:
-
Cut back to clean copper on all wires
-
Strip and insert them into fresh WAGO® clips
-
Ensure the levers lock fully and wires are snug
WAGO®s are reusable, moisture-resistant, and require no tools to reconnect.
